so this is what happens when a train derails…

Oh, the days of commuting… they seem like a distant nightmare memory now.

Commuting to and from Manhattan every day for 2 and a half years, I’d always hear about these mysterious train derailments.  “The LIRR is delayed 45 minutes today due to a train derailment on the Babylon line“.

Could you imagine being on that train?  Fortunately, I never was.

Yesterday, however, 600-700 commuters were not so lucky.  As I was walking home from work, I witnessed the aftermath of an underground train derailment on the Metro North.  It seemed as though all of New York City’s finest were lined up Park Avenue, which was completely shut down.  Surely we got a glimpse of the trapped passengers making their way from the underground emergency exits, and all I could think was “it must be 150 degrees down there“.  Literally.

Getting trapped on a train, let alone underground, is something that I hope to never experience.  After a long stressful day at work, the last thing in the world you need is for your commute to be extended any longer than it already is.

A fire-bus… I thought this was very cool
