let’s all quit our jobs and travel the world…

…spend the rest of our days lounging on the beach.  Feeling the sand between our toes, the sun on our cheeks.  No meetings, no time constraints, not a care in the world… Oh, I must have been dreaming.  Sorry

Don’t I wish.

I saw this article  posted on my friend Jaime’s blog yesterday, and had to re-post it.

What I’ve learned from the article entitled, “Why I Told My Daughter to Quit her Job”:

    • “College, if you’re lucky enough to get there, is really about figuring out your friends and your values as well as your dreams for the future. Nobody — well, almost nobody — finds a top-paying position right out of college.”   So… very… true.

    • “Jobs are like college courses. Each one you take teaches you a set of new skills and offers a fresh perspective on life. They aren’t meant to be permanent, most of them. They are only stepping stones.”  Very hard to believe sometimes, but TRUE.  My parents always tell me, “it’s not the end of the world”…  And they’re right.  I constantly need to tell myself this.

    • “That “safe” job will kill your creativity, drown your enthusiasm, and smother your ability to get up in the morning with a bounce in your step. Why stay?”   True.  A former boss once told me that the minute you stop feeling challenged, it’s time to leave.

    • “When you quit a job, any job, it can be terrifying. But it’s also exhilarating, as you open yourself to new possibilities. So go ahead. Take the risk. Quit that job, if you hate it. You might surprise yourself.”    We all think about this sometimes, but never actually do it.  Should we quit that 8:00am-8:00pm job that’s destroying our skin and making us lose our hair and instead, travel the world for six months?

Maybe it’s true, maybe it’s not… of course, I always tend to fear the unknown.  Regardless, this article really gets you thinking.
