this is my worst nightmare…

If I witnessed this as a child, I would have been scarred for life.

I saw this at twenty-five and I swear I’m still recovering…

updated console

I recently bought a lamp from Target, which I mentioned a few posts back, and I was super excited to see how it could potentially fit in with our apartment decor.

Sure it may have taken me 45 minutes to design the perfect set up, but I absolutely love the way everything looks now…

The flowers were an extra special surprise from Mike, who knows exactly how to make me smile when things aren’t going as well as I’d like them to.  The calendar is also a new addition, by Thornwillow, and I love how simple and sophisticated it is.  The simplicity of circling a special date is all I need to see right before I step out for the day.

Women In Sports

“Women in Sports” was the theme for our traditional H-ELLE reunion Wednesday night, and we couldn’t have been sportier, if you ask me.

First stop, SPIN, to play endless amounts 10 minutes of ping pong.  Team M killed it.  After housing down 3 unappetizing/overpriced appetizer platters, it was absolutely time to leave.

We decided to venture east, and soon stumbled upon a little gem called The Copper Door Tavern.  Now this place was really calling our name.

LADIES NIGHT.

$3 drafts.  $5 apps.  You can’t get much better than that in this city… And to top it off, the food was pretty damn good, being cheap aside.

We made ourselves right at home, and pretended to care about the Rangers game on the big screen TV, which was absolutely key in carrying on our theme for the night.

Desert Park

So this is what Bryant Park looks like when it rains…

Keeping my fingers tightly crossed that Mother Nature has rained herself out before Memorial Day Weekend begins.

A touch of Summer

Memorial Day Weekend is steadily approaching (4-day weekend, I’ve never needed you more…), which means Summer is officially here!  This also means hydrangea season is just around the corner…

My mom got me this pillow for my apartment, and I absolutely love it.

It’s the perfect touch of summer for our white main room, and I can’t wait to have hydrangeas all year round!

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

My friend Jess and I have started a tradition… we decided to take advantage of all this city has to offer and try and see as many Broadway shows as possible (for as cheap as possible, of course).

Promises Promises“, “Spiderman: Turn off the Dark“, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying“… this time, it was “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”.

The costumes and set were truly amazing, but there were times I found myself squirming in my seat with discomfort/awkwardness.

Feeling like I was at a male strip club at times aside, the music was extremely fun and upbeat, and it was definitely one of the more entertaining shows I’ve been to.

Let me tell you… never a dull moment at Priscilla!

Japanese BBQ

When it comes to food/dining out, I typically stay within my comfort zone… penne a la vodka, pizza, Chilean sea bass, swordfish, filet mignon, cheeseburger & fries…

My boyfriend, however, has a much more daring palate than myself.  He’s been recommending that we try Japanese and/or Korean BBQ for months, and I haven’t necessarily said no, but I haven’t pushed for it either.

Well, I finally had my first-ever Japanese BBQ experience at Gyu-Kaku, and you can quote me when I say that I wouldn’t mind going back.  I really wouldn’t!  It was such a fun date, and I’m really glad we went…  I loved the fact that we were able to prepare our own food right at the table.

I had Mike order everything, and he made some great selections… my favorites were the skirt steak and the chicken because they were nice and thin, which made them really easy to grill.

I never even knew this restaurant existed but I have a feeling that it won’t be long until we revisit…

Palma

I had a really difficult time nailing down a restaurant for Mike’s Birthday dinner… Red Farm? Another time.  Red Rooster?  No.  Il Buco Alimentari Vineria?  Nah.

Ay, ay, ay!  He is one very high maintenance boyfriend!

Alas, I decided to take him somewhere that I’ve been itching to go to for months.  Happy Birthday to… me?  All joking aside, Mike did request an Italian restaurant, and we are both big fans of dining al fresco, so I really felt that this was our best bet.  Win-win.

The restaurant and garden are absolutely adorable (the hydrangeas lining the perimeter of the garden were an added bonus for me, of course), and it’s not too loud, and quite intimate.   Aside from the shrimp, the food was delicious. We both loved the homemade meatballs and spinach/ricotta cheese-filled ravioli – whatever that sauce was, it was very tasty – and I highly recommend them both!

All in all, this is a great Birthday dinner/ date night spot for all.

Loopy Doopy

Mike’s pre-Birthday Dinner toast took place at the Conrad Hotel’s Loopy Doopy rooftop bar downtown.

Stunning views, and even better cocktails –  Prosecco on-tap and liquor infused popsicles… need I say more?
