decisions, decisions

Perla

I’ve been looking to check out Perla down in the Village for quite some time, so I was thrilled when I got a reservation for two at the chef’s counter.

I dragged my friend Jess there, but pretty sure we both had to be rolled home after devouring two pasta dishes and a whole roasted branzino.

summer is for… sunny beach weekends

Each Monday, I anxiously await the upcoming weekend and I check the 10-day forecast religiously.

Why?  That’s because I have just about two things on my mind: the sand between my toes and the sound (and sight) of the waves crashing directly in front of me.

Here’s hoping that every weekend will be similar to this past one.

a belt for life.

… until you gain 20 pounds, at least!

Each time a holiday and/or Birthday rolls around, I begin to stress about what to gift my boyfriend of 4 years.

It’s not that he’s high maintenance… In fact, he is anything but!  He appreciates everything I have ever given him, from a classic Brooks Brothers navy blue blazer, to silly – yet practical – rubber shoe covers for those nasty NYC winters.  That being said, I wanted to try and do something particularly special for his Birthday this year because I wanted him to know just how much I appreciate him (even though I tend not to show it at times).

My friend Lauren told me about a life belt that she was needle pointing for her brother last fall, and I immediately knew that would be Mike’s next Birthday gift.  I had never needle pointed a day in my life, but how hard could it be, right?

She then referred me to Debbie Purtell, who made the process seamless and painless.  Debbie owns Deborah Purtell Designs, and she was amazing.  Like I said, I didn’t know the first thing about needle pointing but thanks to Debbie & my mom, it was a great success!  Debbie worked with me on everything from the design to the actual finishing of the belt… She hand paints the icons herself, so every single thing about this belt is original, and customized by me, which makes it that much more special.

I have to say that the process took much longer than I expected (I needed to allow a good 2-3 months from start to finish), but it was worth it.  Needle pointing was also more therapeutic and more fun than I could have ever imagined.  I loved the progress I saw each time I picked up the belt and put it down before turning in for the night (it also didn’t hurt that Lauren and I had 5 days on a catamaran to do nothing by relax and needle point!).

I highly recommend this to anyone who is struggling to find that perfect gift for their special someone.

Check out my progress, above and below!

summer solstice

Creative Edge hosted a beautiful cocktail reception and dinner to kick off my all-time favorite season…

Everything from the decor to the flowers to the food and cocktails were impeccable, and it was the perfect way to dive right into summer!

Sunset over Brooklyn

Mike and I haven’t escaped from work in time to see the sunset in weeks.  And yes, I referred to it as “escaped“.

Tuesday evening was a rare opportunity to seize and make the most of our 6:30 dismissal…  I have officially declared this summer, “the summer that never was“, in case you were wondering.

We made a stop at the Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club  for drinks, followed by a very intimate dinner for two at Barbarini Alimentari.

Drinking a beer and watching the sunset over the Brooklyn Bridge cannot be beat, although I would have preferred a Blue Moon or a Shock Top over the Sierra Nevada Summerfest that was on-tap.  A beer and a view, nonetheless!

mis-b.

This past weekend consisted of the following:

Belly laughs, Instagramming, braids-cornrows-fishtails, home-cooked meals, misbehaving, prank calling, pickle dip, shorts vs. mediums vs. talls, Porter vs. Morris, reminiscing over Slow Idaho-branded Sutter Home, heart-to-hearts, epiphanies, country music, non-stop day drinking, and some much-needed quality time with (the majority of) Team S.I.

little black jacket

Chanel’s “Little Black Jacket” exhibition was in New York for one week…  And it was my mission, should I choose to accept it, to make it there before it closed and never came back.

The exhibit was not what I expected, at all.  No lines, no ID’s, no admission fees.  Just fun.

I went with my friend Alana, who loves fashion even more than I do (hard to believe, I know), and we both thoroughly enjoyed walking around and just… staring.

As opposed to most fashion exhibits that showcase the physical pieces, Chanel’s Little Black Jacket exhibit strictly showcased photographs – from Anna Wintour to Elizabeth Olsen and even Kanye West – all taken by Karl Lagerfeld, which was truly amazing to see.

Who knew that you could style a simple little black jacket in so many ways?

A few of my favorite photographs below…

summertime necklace

I’m a big fan of statement pieces – necklaces especially.  So when I saw this necklace on Bauble Bar, it was love at first click.  In fact, I sent a link to one of my girlfriends for approval (because we all do that, right?), and her response was, “Well that’s so ‘you’.”

Indeed.

Next thing I know, I was adding it to my cart for immediate purchase.

Sadly the necklace was on back-order, so it took me over a month and a half to receive it, but it was well-worth the wait.  What a pleasant surprise receiving that little box from my doorman late Sunday night!

An added bonus?  This necklace was really affordable — under $40 and they gave me a $10 off coupon simply for signing up for the site!  I have to say that I have no regrets about this purchase.
