Avenue Lou

Tend to find mystery scratches on your favorite pair of sunglasses?  Or maybe those flimsy Ray Ban cases just aren’t cutting it…  Either way, you may be in luck because that’s where Avenue Lou steps in and saves the day.

Just like we need our fancy iPhone cases, why not a  fun case for our sunglasses?  I know for me, personally, my sunglasses are just as important to me as my iPhone, if not more, so we may as well give them a nice place to rest when they’re not being used and abused.

eat cake for breakfast.

I could live by that motto.  In fact, I have, many a time.  Cake, cupcakes, brownies, macaroons, cookies… any form of sweets for breakfast.  Of course now that my metabolism has slowed exponentially, it’s probably not such a bright idea anymore.

I spotted this tote on a beach goer’s arm on my most recent train ride out to the suburbs and fell in love.  It’s much cuter in person and I wish I had snatched it up pre-summer, but may need to look into purchasing it for future beach trips.

Yes, it happens to be from Kate Spade’s Spring 2012 collection so it is no longer available, but I may need to do some digging… Ebay could be calling my name.

Another restaurant I’ve been chomping at the bit to try… such a quaint and charming restaurant with such a large personality and even better menu.

Everything we tasted was delicious.  They kept bringing out one dish after another and by the time it was time to go home, my friend and I could not force another dumpling or grain of rice in our mouths, no matter how tasty.

I hear the wait can be brutal, but we were able to enjoy a glass of white sangria at the bar while we waited… just keep in mind the bar is extremely small.  Given the fact that RedFarm doesn’t take reservations, I definitely recommend going on a Monday or Tuesday night in order to avoid the crowds.

Peplum Jackets

I bought a peplum tank from H&M several years ago, and I still consider it to be one of my all-time favorite items in my closet.  It has been a go-to wardrobe staple since the moment I cut the tags off because of it’s versatility – work appropriate and going out appropriate, which is key for me.

It’s also surprisingly flattering.

When I tell you that I was thrilled to see the peplum out in full-swing this past year, that is a serious understatement.  I have purchased more peplum than I would like to admit… skirts, dresses, polka dots, lace, leather, embellished… OK, so I got a little carried away.

The next peplum I’m looking to buy?  A peplum jacket.  It’s chic and sophisticated and it pulls an entire look together without looking like you’re trying too hard.  ZARA, J.Crew, TopShop and ASOS have some top contenders.

The NoMad Library & Rooftop

I hate to say it, but the Library… kind of overrated.  Sure, it’s really cute, and the concept is clever, but the drink menu was underwhelming and the small bites were so-so.  I mean, why is everybody raving about the radishes covered in butter?  Why?  I swear I could still taste the soil.

I must say, though, The NoMad Library Bar is an ideal date spot – quiet, dark and cozy.  The restaurant is so loud and buzzy that it’s nice to be able to sneak away and be tucked back in your own private space.  Great concept, but the service was slow and the menu could definitely use some sprucing.

The Rooftop, however, is beautiful, overlooking midtown and the Empire State Building.  It closes on August 31 for the summer (sad!), so I recommend checking it out if you have the time and the funds to pay for the chef’s seven-course tasting menu.

The Anorak is Back

The anorak used to be a staple in my wardrobe… seriously, I’m not kidding.  I had a navy blue anorak from GAP Kids that I literally wore to the ground, and once I grew out of that beloved pullover, a.k.a. discovered there were holes in the elbows, I upgraded to a more sophisticated khaki & white version from Eddie Bauer.  Alas, that too was worn one too many times.

Now I am lusting over this classic looking ‘festival blue‘ number from J.Crew, and I plan to make it mine.  Of course L.L. Bean also has some great, more affordable options, not to mention more durable and practical.

Decisions, decisions…

Everyone should go ahead and purchase some blue suede shoes pumps.
