weekend recap

There was quite a bit to celebrate this past weekend as things started to get real in terms of the impending nuptials. It felt so nice to cross a few tasks off the list which included:

  • finally committing–or should I say, “saying yes“–to a dress (!!!)

  • finalizing our wedding party, which I could not have done without these two Etsy shops: Honizukle Press +  Label with Love

  • save-the-dates are printed… there’s no turning back now

weekend recap

This past weekend was another busy one with lots of traveling, but it was well worth every mile.  Our first stop in the Buckeye State was Cincinnati, followed by Dayton, then Oxford, and back to Cincinnati. In less than two days, Mike and I managed to spend time with my sister and brother-in-law, attend our friends’ beautiful wedding, catch up with friends from college, and visit our alma mater.

The weather was crisp, the leaves were changing, and the smell of fall was in the air. With the 85-degree weather that Charleston has had this past week, it was nice to get that little fall fix.

a day at the races

Although I attended college in the midwest, I had never been to Keeneland or the Kentucky Derby. Fortunately for me, I had a chance to visit Lexington, Kentucky–which is really such a beautiful and fun city–and attend Opening Weekend at Keeneland’s Fall Meet this past Saturday. Keeneland is attended by people of all ages, but it was definitely a bit more sophisticated than say, Belmont or Preakness.

Albeit chilly, we had a beautiful day at the Keeneland Clubhouse and enjoyed a boozy brunch and lots of Southern fare beforehand to help keep us warm.

weekend recap

As the co-maid of honor in my friend’s wedding this coming November, I hosted her bachelorette weekend at a charming beach house in Folly Beach. Although it was overcast and rainy for much of the weekend, the sun managed to poke through on Sunday during our beach yoga session with Serenity Tree Yoga.

weekend recap

My weekend in New York may have been a whirlwind, but it was filled with lots of love. After looking at venues all-day Friday, my friends threw us a little a little engagement celebration, and on Sunday, I attended a bridal shower for one of my best friends from high school.

narrowing it down

I approached my wedding venue search the same way I approached my college application process. Start early, do lots of research, and leave no stone unturned.

After reaching out to 60+ venues in the tri-state area from NYC penthouses with skyline views to lush vineyards to raw barns to Gold Coast mansions to yacht and country clubs, Mike and I finally narrowed it down while I was home this past weekend.

Some of my favorite photos from the hunt below!

week-long recap

The past two weeks have been a whirlwind between the engagement, Mike’s week-long visit, a two-day stint in Hilton Head, and hunting for the perfect venue in New York  from South Carolina.
