big news!

It’s hard to believe that eight short years ago, Mike was just the cute boy in my Spanish class who I secretly hoped would be assigned my partner on a class project. Sure enough, as fate would have it–and I do believe it was fate–my Spanish class crush and I were paired up.

Two weeks ago, Mike and my dad went golfing. They had been meaning to play all summer so I didn’t think much of it until friends started buzzing. Post-golf outing, Mike sent a selfie of he and my dad–wearing two of the biggest smiles I had ever seen on either one of them. LIttle did I know what was behind those smiles…

Labor Day Weekend has always been one of my favorite weekends. Not only because it’s a long weekend, but the air is dry, the nights are crisp, and the water is always warm. My parents got married over Labor Day Weekend 36 years ago. Labor Day Weekend is also the reason Mike and I started speaking in the first place. He had overheard me telling a girl in our class that I was flying home for the long weekend–he’s a very good eavesdropper–and he asked me where home was. We soon discovered that my home and his home were nearly 700 miles from Miami’s beautiful campus in Oxford, Ohio; but a mere 50 miles from each other.

Fast forward eight Labor Day Weekends later and after a long dip in the warm Atlantic followed by a stroll hand in hand to one of Charleston’s deserted beaches, Mike got down on one knee and made it official. It was the perfect place and the perfect time, and now Labor Day Weekend will really, forever be my favorite.

weekend recap

I never imagined in a million years that I’d have to leave Charleston for some sunshine–to New York of all places. And never did I think that I’d arrive in New York thinking, “Gosh, it’s so nice to finally have some nice weather.” Sure enough, this is exactly what went through my mind this past weekend when I took a much-needed escape from the hot, muggy, and rainy summer down South for the dry, mild, and sunny weather up North.

weekend recap

After a hectic week, a rainy weekend with no set plans was just what the doctor ordered.

weekend recap

I love showing out-of-towners the beautiful and seductive city is Charleston. It’s such an easy destination to host in with so much to do and see. Weekends with visitors are always jam-packed and this was certainly one of those weekends with two of my best friends from home in town.

We re-lived our high school days by attending an O.A.R. concert at Family Circle Stadium, taking a bike ride through downtown Charleston, and wreaking havoc in and around the city.

weekend recap

Having Mike down in Charleston always feels like a vacation, and this past visit was no different. We took full advantage of our three days together and the unseasonably mild weather with a post-work date night on Sullivan’s Island, a round of miniature golf at The Shrimp Shack (I let him beat me by one stroke… next time he may not be so lucky), a relaxing afternoon on Folly Beach, a double-date double header, dinner at the newly opened Union Provisions, and a visit to Cypress Gardens á la The Notebook.

An exhausting weekend, but wish we could do it all over again!

birthday recap

I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend and celebrate my birthday–a day that I typically despise. Some quality time at home, a stroll through Central Park, lunch and cocktails at The Loeb Boathouse, a dip at The Empire Hotel, followed by a Yankees game with friends (if only they’d have won for me). I guess birthdays aren’t so bad after all!

weekend recap

This past weekend, my sister and brother-in-law finally made it down to Charleston to pay me a visit, and we managed not to let the rain dampen our weekend plans.

Added bonus: Mike made an appearance, too!
